Shingles is a skin disease which causes due to Varicella-zoster virus. It is the same virus which causes chicken pox disease. When a person suffers from the chicken pox disease, the virus remains in the body ( in nerve root) for some years, but DUE TO  some circumstances like mental stress, infection and allergy, the virus becomes active and causes this skin condition.

Symptoms

Some of the early symptoms of this disease are itchiness, burning sensation, inflammation and tingling which may get worse with time if it is not treated at the initial stage. Shingles forms blisters which may create pain in advance stage cases. The pain may last from one to 14 days. This skin condition may affect the one side of the body or face. When it affects the face, it may affect vision and hearing.

Treatment of Shingles

There is no any proper treatment for the Shingles, but in most of the cases, the painful rash may create unpleasant experience, as the rashes may create blisters on the skin which produce pain. The pain may last for 7 to 10 days and may take a few weeks (around two to four weeks) to get healed. However, there are medicines available to treat the pain and some people may also be prescribed antiviral medication to help stop the virus multiplying.

Shingles can be treated with antiviral medicines. Some of the antiviral medicines include vaccination, antiviral medicines and oral medicines are useful in this skin disease which kills the virus. Generally, in advance stage, a person prefers to visit the clinic of dermatologist to get proper treatment.

The antiviral medicines help to reduce the pain and heal the rash problem. Some of the popular antiviral medicines which are often used are acyclovir, and famciclovir (Famvir), valacyclovir. These medicines reduce the severity of skin rashes.

 Some of the medications which are given to lessen the pain are ibuprofen (Advil), naproxen (Aleve) and acetaminophen (Tylenol). A dermatologist or skin specialist may advise some narcotic pain-control medications which diminish the symptoms associated with this disease.

Some of the home remedies are useful to decrease the symptoms of this disease like by keeping your skin are as hydrated, clean and dry may prevent the Shingles. Cool compresses may be applied to the painful area may be also helpful.
